Applesauce Donuts

- flour (5 cups)
- baking powder (4 tsp.)
- salt (1 tsp.)
- nutmeg (1 tsp.)
- cinnamon (1 tsp.)
- mace (¼ tsp.)
- butter (¼ cup)
- sugar (1 cup)
- eggs (3)
- vanilla or almond extract (1 tsp.)
- applesauce (1 cup)
- buttermilk (½ cup)
- olive oil (for frying)
Sift dry ingredients. Mix butter, sugar, and eggs. Add vanilla and applesauce. Add buttermilk. Mix. Add dry ingredients. Chill batter one hour. Roll out on flour and use cookie cutter. Fry in hot olive oil.
